Salmon Teriyaki Recipe

For an easy and delicious take on a classic Japanese dish, try this savory Salmon Teriyaki. With its succulent salmon fillets glazed in a sweet and tangy teriyaki sauce, it makes for a delightful meal any day of the week. Follow these steps for a perfect balance of flavors and textures.

Ingredients:

  • 4 salmon fillets (with skin), bones and scales removed
  • 1-2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons sake (or substitute with Shaoxing wine; if you prefer to avoid alcohol, use water instead)

For the Teriyaki Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (preferably Japanese soy sauce)
  • 3 tablespoons mirin
  • 3 tablespoons sake
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Salmon:

    • Rub the salmon fillets with salt and grated ginger. Set aside for 30 minutes. After marinating, gently pat the fillets dry with a paper towel or clean cloth to remove excess moisture.
  2. Make the Teriyaki Sauce:

    • In a bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, honey, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Cook the Salmon:

    • Heat a small amount of oil in a non-stick skillet over low heat. Place the salmon fillets in the skillet, skin side down. Cook until the skin is crispy and browned, about 4-5 minutes.
    • Add the sake to the skillet, immediately cover with a lid, and let it steam for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sake to evaporate and the top of the salmon to cook through.
  4. Glaze with Teriyaki Sauce:

    • Pour the prepared teriyaki sauce over the salmon. Flip the fillets so that the skin side is now facing up. Increase the heat to high and cook until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, spooning some of the sauce over the salmon as it cooks. Turn off the heat once the sauce has reduced to your desired consistency.
  5. Serve:

    • Serve the salmon over a bowl of steamed rice. Drizzle with additional teriyaki sauce to taste. For a complete meal, garnish with steamed broccoli and slices of nori.

Enjoy your homemade Salmon Teriyaki hot and fresh! This dish pairs wonderfully with simple sides and is sure to impress with its blend of savory, sweet, and umami flavors.
