Ingredients:

  • 500 ml egg whites
  • 50 ml thick coconut milk
  • Salted broth powder, to taste
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • 1 stalk green onion, sliced
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 sachet plain agar-agar
  • Cooking oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu Base: In a mixing bowl, combine the egg whites, thick coconut milk, and salted broth powder. Stir until well mixed. Pour the mixture into a heatproof dish and steam until fully cooked. Once done, let it cool slightly and then cut it into small, tofu-sized cubes. Set aside.

  2. Prepare the Filling: In a separate bowl, mix the grated carrot, sliced green onion, and half of the plain agar-agar sachet. Season with additional salted broth powder to taste and add a small amount of water. Stir until the mixture is well combined.

  3. Prepare the Coating: In another bowl, dissolve the remaining half sachet of agar-agar in a little water. Beat in the whole egg until well combined.

  4. Stuff the Tofu: Carefully slice the center of each tofu cube to create a pocket. Fill each pocket with the prepared vegetable filling.

  5. Coat the Tofu: Dip each stuffed tofu cube into the egg and agar-agar mixture, ensuring it is well coated.

  6. Fry the Tofu: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the coated tofu cubes until they are golden brown and crispy. Turn them occasionally to ensure even cooking on all sides.

  7. Serve and Enjoy: Remove the tofu from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve warm as a delicious appetizer or side dish.
