Tahu Isi (Stuffed Tofu)

Ingredients

All-purpose flour 150 g
Rice flour 50 g
Water as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Begin by soaking the firm tofu in a solution of 2 teaspoons of salt for about 15 minutes. After soaking, carefully press the tofu between your palms to expel excess water, then make a slit down the center of each piece to create a pocket.

  2. Sauté the Vegetables: In a skillet, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and black pepper, sautéing until fragrant. Incorporate the julienned carrots, trimmed bean sprouts, sliced green beans, finely chopped cabbage, green onions, and a pinch of salt. Stir-fry the mixture until the vegetables are wilted and tender. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.

  3. Stuff the Tofu: Gently spoon the sautéed vegetable mixture into the slit of each tofu piece, filling them generously.

  4. Prepare the Batter: In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and rice flour. Gradually add water until you achieve a smooth batter. Season with salt, pepper, and any additional flavorings you prefer.

  5. Fry the Tofu: Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Dip each stuffed tofu piece into the batter, ensuring they are well-coated. Carefully place them in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, approximately 4-5 minutes on each side.
