Crispy Tahu with Spicy Garlic and Shallots

Ingredients:

  • 2 blocks of Tahu (Indonesian tofu), cut into large cubes
  • All-purpose seasoning flour (Tepung Bumbu Serbaguna)
  • 1 bulb garlic, minced
  • 5 bird’s eye chilies, sliced (adjust to taste)
  • 1 stalk green onion, sliced diagonally
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Chicken bouillon powder (optional)
  • 1-2 tablespoons butter or margarine

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Coat the tofu cubes evenly with the all-purpose seasoning flour.
    • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the tofu until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. Sauté Garlic:

    • In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon of butter or margarine.
    • Add the minced garlic and sauté until it turns golden brown and crispy, being careful not to burn it. Remove from the pan and drain excess oil.
  3. Cook the Spices:

    • In the same pan, add a bit more butter or margarine if needed, and then add the remaining minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant.
    • Add the sliced bird’s eye chilies and sauté briefly until the chilies release their aroma.
  4. Combine and Season:

    • Season the mixture with salt, black pepper, and chicken bouillon powder if using.
    • Add the fried tofu to the pan and toss to coat the tofu evenly with the spicy garlic mixture.
  5. Finish and Serve:

    • Turn off the heat and add the sliced green onions. Give everything a final toss.
    • Serve hot as a delicious appetizer or a side dish.

Enjoy this flavorful and crispy Tahu with a spicy kick!
