Teriyaki-Spiced Fried Tofu

Ingredients:

  • 1 large block of firm tofu
  • All-purpose seasoning flour (e.g., Sasa brand)
  • 4 shallots
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/2-inch piece of ginger, crushed
  • 2 red curly chilies
  • 1 large green chili
  • 1 sachet of Saori teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • Cooking oil for frying and sautéing
  • Sugar and salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Cut the firm tofu into small cubes. Coat each piece thoroughly with all-purpose seasoning flour. Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu until golden and crispy. Once fried, set aside.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables: Thinly slice the shallots, garlic, onion, red chilies, and green chili.
  3. Sauté the Aromatics: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Sauté the sliced shallots, garlic, onion, red chilies, and green chili along with the crushed ginger until fragrant and slightly caramelized.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Return the fried tofu to the pan. Pour in the Saori teriyaki sauce and sweet soy sauce. Stir well to coat the tofu evenly with the sauce.
  5. Season: Add sugar and salt to taste. Stir and cook for an additional few minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  6. Taste and Adjust: Taste the dish and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve: Once the flavors are well combined and the tofu is coated in a savory, teriyaki glaze, remove from heat and serve hot. Enjoy as a delicious main or a flavorful side dish.

This Teriyaki-Spiced Fried Tofu offers a delectable fusion of crispy texture and savory, slightly sweet teriyaki flavor, perfect for any meal.
