Teriyaki-Spiced Fried Tofu
Ingredients:
- 1 large block of firm tofu
- All-purpose seasoning flour (e.g., Sasa brand)
- 4 shallots
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1/2 onion
- 1/2-inch piece of ginger, crushed
- 2 red curly chilies
- 1 large green chili
- 1 sachet of Saori teriyaki sauce
- 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
- Cooking oil for frying and sautéing
- Sugar and salt, to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Tofu: Cut the firm tofu into small cubes. Coat each piece thoroughly with all-purpose seasoning flour. Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu until golden and crispy. Once fried, set aside.
- Prepare the Vegetables: Thinly slice the shallots, garlic, onion, red chilies, and green chili.
- Sauté the Aromatics: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Sauté the sliced shallots, garlic, onion, red chilies, and green chili along with the crushed ginger until fragrant and slightly caramelized.
- Combine Ingredients: Return the fried tofu to the pan. Pour in the Saori teriyaki sauce and sweet soy sauce. Stir well to coat the tofu evenly with the sauce.
- Season: Add sugar and salt to taste. Stir and cook for an additional few minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste the dish and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Serve: Once the flavors are well combined and the tofu is coated in a savory, teriyaki glaze, remove from heat and serve hot. Enjoy as a delicious main or a flavorful side dish.
This Teriyaki-Spiced Fried Tofu offers a delectable fusion of crispy texture and savory, slightly sweet teriyaki flavor, perfect for any meal.
