Martabak Tahu: A Delicious Indonesian Delight

Ingredients:

Spring roll wrappers 20 sheets
Shallots 6 cloves
Garlic 3 cloves
Bird’s eye chili (optional) 6 pieces, thinly sliced
Green onions To taste, chopped
Egg 1 whole
Chicken bouillon powder 2 tbsp
Ground pepper 1 tsp
Salt 3 tbsp
All-purpose flour As needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Begin by mashing the tofu until smooth and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Aromatics: In a mortar and pestle, coarsely grind the shallots, garlic, and bird’s eye chili (if using) to create a fragrant paste.

  6. Assemble the Martabak: Take a spring roll wrapper and place about 1 tablespoon of the tofu mixture in the center.

  7. Seal the Wrapper: In a small bowl, mix flour with water to create a paste for sealing. Use this paste to secure the edges of the wrapper, folding it neatly to encase the filling.

  8. Repeat the Process: Continue filling and sealing the remaining wrappers until all the filling is used.

  9. Fry to Perfection: Heat oil in a frying pan. Once hot, carefully add the wrapped martabak and fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
