Asinan Tahu Melotot Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Tahu:

  • 10 small white tofu pieces
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • Ground coriander, black pepper, salt, and seasoning to taste

For the Asinan Sauce:

  • 15 bird’s eye chilies
  • 2 red chilies
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Hot water
  • 5 tamarind pods
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu Mixture:

    • Begin by finely mashing the tofu. Once it’s well mashed, incorporate the egg, flour, and finely ground garlic into the tofu mixture.
    • Add ground coriander, black pepper, salt, and seasoning according to your taste preferences. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
    • Shape the mixture into small, bite-sized pieces and heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
    • Fry the tofu pieces until golden and crispy, then drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  2. Make the Asinan Sauce:

    • Blend the bird’s eye chilies, red chilies, sugar, and garlic until smooth.
    • Pour hot water into the blended mixture and stir to combine.
    • Add the tamarind pods and a pinch of salt. Continue to stir until the tamarind is fully dissolved and the sauce has a balanced flavor. Adjust salt to taste if needed.
  3. Assemble the Dish:

    • Arrange the crispy tofu pieces on a serving plate.
    • Generously pour the asinan sauce over the tofu.
    • Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Enjoy this tangy and spicy Asinan Tahu Melotot as a delightful appetizer or a savory snack!
