Description:

This German Chocolate Icing recipe is a cherished family tradition passed down from my mom. It’s the perfect complement to any cake, and whenever I make it, it’s always a crowd-pleaser. I often double the recipe because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love an extra generous layer of icing on their cake?

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans

Instructions:

Step Description
1 In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
2 Add the evaporated milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and whisk in the egg yolks.
3 Cook and stir the mixture over medium heat until it starts to bubble, then continue cooking for about nine (9) minutes, stirring constantly.
4 Pour the hot mixture over the shredded coconut and chopped pecans in a metal bowl, and mix well.
5 For faster cooling, place the bowl with the mixture in the refrigerator, stirring occasionally until it reaches the desired thickness for icing your cake.
6 Once cooled and thickened, generously ice your cake with the German Chocolate Icing.

Tips:

  • To speed up the cooling process, spread the icing in a thin layer on a baking sheet and place it in the refrigerator.
  • You can use store-bought or homemade cake for this recipe. Boxed cake mixes work just fine and save time without compromising on taste.
  • Ensure to stir the icing occasionally while it cools to prevent it from forming a skin on top.
