Spicy Beef Soup Recipe
Ingredients:
- 500 grams beef
- 6 shallots
- 5 cloves garlic
- 2 curly chilies
- 20 bird’s eye chilies
- 4 kaffir lime leaves
- 1 bay leaf
- A pinch of ground ginger
- A pinch of ground galangal
- Beef broth (as needed)
- Salt (to taste)
- Sugar (to taste)
- ½ cube beef bouillon (optional)
Instructions:
-
Cook the Beef: Begin by simmering the beef with the bay leaf until tender. Once the beef is cooked through and tender, reserve the cooking liquid.
-
Prepare the Spice Paste: Coarsely grind the shallots, garlic, ginger, galangal, curly chilies, and bird’s eye chilies.
-
Sauté the Spice Paste: Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan. Add the ground spice paste and the kaffir lime leaves. Sauté until fragrant. For added flavor, you may include fried potatoes, anchovies, or fermented soybeans (tempeh). Remove from heat and set aside.
-
Prepare the Beef: Once the beef is tender, remove it from the pot and slice it into small pieces or thin strips according to your preference. Heat additional oil in a pan and fry the beef until it is partially crispy.
-
Combine Ingredients: Return the sautéed spice paste to the pan with the beef. Add salt, sugar, and beef bouillon (if using). Pour in the reserved beef broth according to your taste and desired soup consistency. Stir well and adjust seasoning as needed.
-
Serve and Enjoy: Allow the mixture to simmer until well combined and the flavors meld together. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot and enjoy the spicy, flavorful beef soup!
