Spicy and Sour Mackerel (Ikan Kembung Asem Pedas)

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium-sized mackerels (ikan kembung)
  • Red chilies, to taste
  • Bird’s eye chilies, to taste (add more if you prefer it spicier)
  • Shallots
  • Garlic
  • 1 tomato
  • Ginger, to taste
  • Tamarind water, to taste

Steps:

  1. Begin by cutting each mackerel into three pieces. If the mackerel is large, you might need to adjust the size accordingly.
  2. Sauté the shallots and ginger until fragrant. Add the chopped chilies and tomatoes, and continue to sauté until the mixture is aromatic.
  3. Once the ingredients are well sautéed and aromatic, add the tamarind water along with a bit of additional water to create the broth.
  4. Add the mackerel pieces to the pot and cook until the fish is fully cooked through. Season the dish with salt, monosodium glutamate (optional), and sugar to taste.
  5. Once the fish is cooked and the flavors are well combined, remove from heat and serve hot.

Enjoy your flavorful and aromatic Spicy and Sour Mackerel (Ikan Kembung Asem Pedas)!
