Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 brown sugar
1/2 granulated sugar
1/2 water
1/4 salt
1 vanilla
2 1/2 walnuts

Instructions

  1. Combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, water, and salt in a 3-quart saucepan.

  2. Slowly bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.

  3. Boil slowly until the temperature reaches 246 degrees Fahrenheit, also known as the firm ball stage. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat immediately.

  4. Add vanilla extract and walnut halves to the saucepan, stirring continuously until the nuts are evenly coated with the syrup.

  5. Continue stirring until the syrup begins to crystallize and the nuts appear “sugary” rather than sticky. This process typically takes 5-7 minutes.

  6. Quickly transfer the coated nuts onto a sheet of waxed paper or foil.

  7. Separate the nuts using two forks, ensuring they don’t clump together. This step should be done swiftly before the coating hardens.

  8. It’s recommended to have someone assist you during this step to speed up the process.

  9. Allow the coated nuts to cool thoroughly before transferring them to a tightly covered container for storage.

These Panocha Walnuts make for an irresistible treat that’s perfect for holiday gifting or as a sweet snack any time of the year! Enjoy the rich, fudge-like coating and the satisfying crunch of the walnuts with every bite. 🎁🌰
