Ingredients

Ingredient Amount
Thinly sliced salmon fillet 250 g
Butter (mentega) 3 tablespoons
Olive oil (minyak zaitun) 1 tablespoon
Finely chopped garlic 3 cloves
Thinly sliced onion (bawang bombay) 1 medium onion
Crushed ginger (jahe) 1 small piece
Soy sauce (kecap asin) 1 tablespoon
Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) 1 tablespoon
Worcestershire sauce (saos inggris) 1 tablespoon
Salt (garam), sugar (gula), black pepper (merica bubuk), and stock powder (kaldu) To taste
Cornstarch (optional) 1 tablespoon

Note: Cornstarch is optional. I prefer skipping it, as I donโ€™t like my sauce too thick.

Instructions

  1. Sautรฉ the Aromatics: Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sautรฉ until they start to soften and become fragrant. Add the minced garlic and crushed ginger, and continue sautรฉing until the aroma fills the kitchen.

  2. Cook the Salmon: Gently add the salmon fillets to the pan, ensuring that each piece is well-seared and cooked through. Depending on the thickness of your fillets, cook each side for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and cooked to your preference.

  3. Create the Sauce: To the pan, add the butter, soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir everything together to ensure the salmon is fully coated in the delicious sauce. Season with salt, sugar, black pepper, and a pinch of stock powder, adjusting the seasoning to your liking.

  4. Final Touch: Let the salmon simmer for another 2-3 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken slightly and for the flavors to meld together. If the sauce is too runny for your taste, you can dissolve a tablespoon of cornstarch in a small amount of water and stir it in to thicken the sauce (optional).

  5. Serve: Serve your buttery salmon hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired. Pair it with steamed rice, sautรฉed vegetables, or even mashed potatoes for a complete and satisfying meal.

Tips and Variations

  • No Cornstarch? No Problem! If you prefer a lighter sauce, simply skip the cornstarch and enjoy a more liquid, flavorful sauce thatโ€™s perfect for drizzling over rice or vegetables.
  • Add a Kick: For a bit of spice, add a pinch of red chili flakes or a small chopped red chili to the pan with the garlic and ginger.
  • Make It a Full Meal: Serve with a side of roasted potatoes or a light salad to make the dish even heartier.

This Salmon Saos Mentega is a delightful combination of rich flavors that come together effortlessly, making it the perfect go-to recipe when you need something quick but delicious. Enjoy!
