Recipe: Parker House Rolls

These Parker House Rolls are rich and full of buttery goodness! Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
3 cups Water
3 tbsp Sugar
2 1/2 tsp Active dry yeast
1/2 cup Unsalted butter
1 cup Milk
2 cups Bread flour
1 1/2 tsp Salt
1 1/2 – 2 cups All-purpose flour
2 tbsp Butter (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. In the bowl of a heavy-duty mixer, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

  2. Meanwhile, melt the unsalted butter in a glass bowl in the microwave.

  3. Add milk to the melted butter and heat until lukewarm, ensuring it doesn’t exceed 110°F.

  4. Pour the milk mixture into the yeast mixture in the mixer bowl.

  5. Attach the dough hook and add bread flour and salt. Combine well.

  6. Gradually add all-purpose flour until a slightly sticky dough ball forms.

  7. Knead the dough for 5 to 10 minutes, adding more all-purpose flour if necessary to prevent sticking.

  8. Place the dough ball in a greased or buttered bowl, turning to coat it with butter.

  9. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise for about an hour or until doubled in size.

  10. Butter a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

  11. Divide the risen dough into approximately 20 pieces and shape each into a smooth ball. Arrange the balls in 5 rows in the prepared baking pan.

  12. Loosely cover the pan and let the dough balls rise again until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.

  13. Using a spatula, make a deep crease down the center of each roll.

  14. Allow the rolls to rise for an additional 15 minutes, covered.

  15. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  16. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter and brush the tops of the rolls with it.

  17. Bake the rolls in the center of the oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.
