Simple Yet Delicious Beef Soup: Perfect for Beginners

This delightful beef soup is a fantastic choice for those new to cooking. It’s straightforward, flavorful, and ideal for a comforting meal. Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients:

  • 300 grams of beef, cut into chunks
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • 2 carrots, sliced into rounds
  • 8 green beans, cut into thirds
  • 2 stalks of scallions, chopped
  • 3 sprigs of celery, chopped
  • 1 tomato, cut into wedges
  • 4 shallots, sliced and fried
  • 5 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 750 ml of water
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • Seasonings:
    • 1/2 tablespoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 2 cm ginger, sliced

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:

    • Clean the beef thoroughly and sprinkle with salt. Rub the salt into the meat and rinse it well. Drain any excess water.
  2. Boil the Beef:

    • In a pot, bring water to a boil. Add the beef chunks and 2 cloves of crushed garlic. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes. Discard the water and add 750 ml of fresh water to the pot.
  3. Prepare the Vegetables:

    • While the beef is cooking, peel and dice the potatoes. Slice the carrots into rounds and cut the green beans into thirds. To prevent the potatoes from turning brown, soak them in water.
  4. Prepare Aromatics:

    • Chop the scallions and tie the celery stalks together. Set aside.
  5. Cook the Soup:

    • Once the beef has been simmering for about 30 minutes, add the remaining garlic, potatoes, and carrots to the pot. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Add the Final Ingredients:

    • Add the fried shallots, chopped scallions, and celery to the pot. Allow the soup to cook for another 5 minutes. Then, add the tomato wedges, green beans, and all the seasonings (salt, sugar, pepper, nutmeg, and ginger). Stir well and let it simmer on low heat for 5 more minutes.
  7. Final Touches:

    • Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve the soup in bowls and add a squeeze of lime juice for a fresh, tangy flavor. You may also sprinkle some additional fried shallots on top for extra crunch.
