Title: Savory Beef Bone Broth (Kaldu Sumsum Sapi)
Ingredients:
- 1 piece beef bone marrow
- 1 potato, peeled and diced
- 2 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 stalk lemongrass, bruised
- 3 stalks green onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 shallots, sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, sliced
- 1 thumb-sized piece of galangal, sliced
- 3 cups water (using a glass as a measurement)
- Fresh lime juice, to taste
Steps:
-
Prepare the Bones:
- Place the beef bone marrow in a pot with 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
-
Add Aromatics:
- Once the water starts boiling, add the bay leaves, lemongrass, green onions, garlic, shallots, and chopped onion. Let it simmer until the aroma of the aromatic ingredients is released.
-
Incorporate the Vegetables:
- Add the diced potato, sliced carrots, and chopped tomato to the pot. Continue to simmer on low heat until the vegetables are tender and the broth has reduced, allowing the oil from the broth to surface.
-
Simmering Process:
- Let the broth simmer gently on low heat until the water has reduced significantly, leaving behind a rich, flavorful broth with tender vegetables.
-
Cool and Strain:
- Turn off the heat and allow the broth to cool. Once cooled, strain the broth to separate the liquid from the solids, capturing the clear, aromatic broth.
-
Storage:
- Pour the strained broth into small plastic clip bags or containers. Seal them tightly and store in the freezer for future use.
Enjoy this rich, homemade beef bone broth, perfect for soups, stews, or sipping on its own!
Feel free to adjust the seasoning with a bit of lime juice before serving for an extra zing. Happy cooking!
