Beef Soup (Sop Daging Sapi) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams beef (can use bones or ribs)
  • 2 large potatoes
  • 2 carrots
  • 3 stalks celery
  • 8 cloves garlic
  • 4 shallots
  • Ground black pepper (to taste)
  • Beef bouillon powder (to taste)
  • For the sambal:
    • Green chili peppers
    • A small amount of shrimp paste
    • Salt (to taste)
    • Seasoning (optional)
  • Water (as needed)
  • Fried shallots (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Cut the beef into chunks. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the beef. Cook until tender, which may take some time depending on the cut used. Skim off any scum that rises to the surface.

  2. Prepare the Vegetables: While the beef is cooking, peel and dice the potatoes and carrots. In a separate pot, boil the diced potatoes and carrots until tender. This step helps to keep the soup clear and prevents the broth from becoming too murky with vegetable starch.

  3. Prepare the Aromatics: Slice 4 shallots and 3 cloves of garlic. Fry them in a pan until golden brown and aromatic. Set aside for later use.
