Strawberry Grape Jam

Category: Jams & Preserves
Servings: 1 Jar

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Strawberry grapes 1 kg
Sugar 600 g
Lemon juice 2 lemons
Water 2 cups
Pectin 1 packet

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Jars & Lids:
Begin by sanitizing your jars and lids as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, which you can find at the end of the recipe. This ensures that your jam remains safe and free from contamination.

  2. Prepare the Grapes:
Gently detach the individual grape berries from their stems, giving each one a thorough wash to remove any dirt or residue.

  3. Cooking the Grapes:
Place the washed grapes in a large pot and bring them to a gentle boil. Let them cook over medium heat for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The grapes should soften and break down into a pulpy consistency.

  4. Pass Through a Sieve:
After the grapes have softened, use a food mill or passaverdure to strain the mixture, removing any seeds and skins, and leaving you with a smooth grape puree.

  5. Weigh the Grape Puree:
Place an empty pot on a scale and note its weight. Then, pour the grape puree into the pot and weigh it again. Subtract the weight of the empty pot from the total weight to determine the weight of the puree. You should have approximately 800-850 grams of grape pulp.

  6. Add Sugar & Lemon:
To the grape pulp, add 600 grams of sugar and the juice from one and a half lemons. Stir well to combine.

  7. Add Pectin:
After the mixture has simmered for the specified time, add the pectin and stir thoroughly. Let it cook for an additional 3 minutes, ensuring the pectin is fully dissolved and incorporated.

  8. Jar the Jam:
Turn off the heat and immediately transfer the hot jam into the sanitized jars, making sure to leave some space at the top. Seal the jars tightly.

  9. Seal & Store:
Once the jars are filled and sealed, allow them to cool completely. The jam can then be stored in a cool, dark place. Follow the Ministry of Health guidelines for storage and safety to ensure your jam stays fresh and safe to consume.

Notes:

  • Be sure to check the Ministry of Health’s sterilization guidelines before starting this recipe to ensure proper food safety practices.
  • You can adjust the sweetness of the jam by adding more or less sugar according to your preference.
