Sate Sapi (Indonesian Beef Satay) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams beef, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon palm sugar (gula jawa)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
For the Spice Paste:
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 candlenut (kemiri)
  • 1/4 teaspoon coriander seeds (ketumbar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (merica)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Spice Paste:

    • In a blender, combine the garlic, candlenut, coriander seeds, and black pepper. Blend until a smooth paste forms.
  2. Marinate the Beef:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped beef with the freshly blended spice paste.
    • Add the palm sugar and salt to the mixture, ensuring everything is well combined.
  3. Assemble the Satay:

    • Thread the marinated beef onto skewers, packing the meat firmly onto each skewer.
  4. Grill the Satay:

    • Preheat your grill or barbecue.
    • Place the skewers on the grill and cook, turning occasionally, until the beef is well-cooked and has a nice char.
    • During grilling, brush the beef with sweet soy sauce to add flavor and a glossy finish.
  5. Serve:

    • Once cooked, remove the skewers from the grill and serve the satay hot, ideally with a side of rice or a fresh salad.
