Indonesian-Style Soy Sauce Chicken Wings
Ingredients:
- 5 chicken wings
- Black soy sauce, to taste
- 5 shallots, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 2 star anise
- 5 cardamom pods
- 1/2 nutmeg, grated
- Black pepper, to taste
- Cooking oil, for sautéing
- Water, as needed
- Red bird’s eye chilies (optional, for spiciness instead of black pepper)
- Salt and sugar, to taste
- Medium-sized potatoes, diced (optional)
Instructions:

Heat cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté shallots and garlic until fragrant.

Add water and bring to a boil.

Once boiling, add chicken wings and cook until done.

Stir in black soy sauce, followed by star anise, cardamom pods, grated nutmeg, black pepper, salt, and sugar to taste.

Optionally, add diced potatoes.

Simmer until everything is cooked through and the sauce thickens.

Indonesian-style soy sauce chicken wings are ready to serve. (Note: If preparing for young children, you may skip black pepper and substitute with red bird’s eye chilies for spiciness.)
