Asam Padeh Gulai Daging Sapi Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams lean beef, cut into cubes
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 packet of Asam Padeh seasoning mix (available at markets)
  • 1 packet of Indofood instant Gulai seasoning mix
  • 1 turmeric leaf, tied in a knot
  • Cooking oil
  • Water, as needed
  • Fried shallots, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Base: Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the Asam Padeh seasoning mix and sauté until fragrant. This step releases the rich aromas of the spice blend, creating a flavorful base for your dish.

  2. Incorporate the Gulai Seasoning: Stir in the Indofood instant Gulai seasoning mix. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture is well combined and the spices are aromatic.

  3. Add the Beef: Introduce the cubed beef into the pot. Mix well, ensuring the meat is evenly coated with the seasoning. Allow it to cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Add the Turmeric Leaf: Place the tied turmeric leaf into the pot. This leaf imparts a subtle, aromatic flavor that complements the dish beautifully. Stir the mixture to distribute the flavor.

  5. Simmer the Beef: Pour enough water into the pot to cover the beef. Stir well and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the beef simmer until it begins to become tender. This process may take some time, so be patient for the best results.

  6. Add the Potatoes: Once the beef is tender and the liquid has started to thicken, add the cubed potatoes. Stir to combine, then cover and continue to cook until the potatoes are fully cooked and tender.

  7. Adjust Seasoning and Serve: Taste the dish and adjust the seasoning as needed. Once everything is well-cooked and the flavors are balanced, transfer the dish to a serving platter. Garnish with fried shallots for a delightful crunch and extra flavor.

Serve this flavorful Asam Padeh Gulai Daging Sapi with steamed rice for a comforting and hearty meal that brings a touch of Indonesian cuisine to your table. Enjoy!
