Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Vegetable Topping

  1. Begin by preparing the vegetable topping. Heat sunflower oil in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat.
  2. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds to the pan. Allow them to crackle and release their aroma, which adds a lovely flavor base to the dish.
  3. Add the finely chopped onion, green bell pepper, carrot, cabbage, and green chillies. Sautรฉ these ingredients until the onion becomes soft, and the cabbage and peppers begin to soften as well.
  4. Once the vegetables have softened, add the finely chopped, deseeded tomato to the pan. Stir well and cook until the tomatoes turn soft and meld with the rest of the vegetables.
  5. Season the mixture with salt, red chilli powder, and chaat masala powder. Stir the spices through at low heat, and adjust the seasoning to your taste.
  6. Add tomato ketchup to the vegetable mixture and stir everything together. Allow the filling to cook on low heat for another minute to combine all the flavors.

Step 2: Toast the Bread

  1. While the topping is cooking, it’s time to toast the bread. Grease and preheat a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  2. Spread a thin layer of butter or ghee on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Place the buttered side of the bread down on the skillet, then spread more butter or ghee on the top surface.
  4. Toast the bread on both sides until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining bread slices.

Step 3: Assemble the Dish

  1. Once the bread slices are toasted and crisp, arrange them on a serving platter.
  2. Spoon the prepared masala topping over each slice of toasted bread, spreading it evenly to cover the surface.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy!

  1. Serve the Iyengar Bakery Style Masala Bread immediately while itโ€™s hot and crispy.
  2. This snack can be served as a tea-time treat, an appetizer, or even packed into kids’ lunchboxes for a flavorful and nutritious meal on the go.

Enjoy this flavorful and crunchy delight that perfectly balances spicy, tangy, and savory notes. The Iyengar Bakery Style Masala Bread is sure to become a family favorite with its irresistible combination of spiced vegetables and crispy bread!
