Mediterranean Cheese Spread

Description: A tangy, flavorful topping that’s perfect for crackers, lavosh, or toasted pita bread. This spread brings a delightful Mediterranean twist to your snacking, with the option to use “light” cream cheese if you prefer a lighter version. Prepare this spread in advance to let the flavors meld together, making it an ideal make-ahead appetizer.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes (plus chilling time)

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese (regular or light, as preferred)
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 3/4 cup kalamata olives, pitted and chopped
  • 1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil, drained and finely chopped
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, feta cheese, chopped kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes, minced garlic, and fresh basil. Use a spatula or spoon to thoroughly mix all ingredients together until well combined.

  2. Chill: Once the mixture is blended to a creamy consistency, cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid. Place the bowl in the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour. For best results, let it chill for up to 24 hours to allow the flavors to meld together and intensify.

  3. Serve: After chilling, give the spread a quick stir to reincorporate any ingredients that may have settled. Serve the Mediterranean cheese spread with crackers, lavosh, or toasted pita bread.

Notes:

  • Make Ahead: This spread can be made a day before your event or gathering. Simply store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  • Variations: Feel free to experiment by adding other Mediterranean ingredients like roasted red peppers or capers to suit your taste.

Enjoy this easy-to-make Mediterranean cheese spread as a delicious and versatile addition to your appetizer repertoire!
