  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Chocolate chips and nuts (for sprinkling)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  4. In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, salt, and 1/4 tsp. of baking soda.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed sugar, margarine, and egg mixture, alternating with the cooled date mixture. Mix until a smooth batter forms.
