Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef, cut into desired pieces

For the spice paste:

  • 4 shallots
  • 3 garlic cloves

Other ingredients:

  • Oil for sautéing
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Nutmeg to taste
  • Sweet soy sauce to taste
  • Water as needed

Steps

  1. Prepare the spice paste: Blend the shallots and garlic cloves until smooth.

  2. Heat the oil: In a wok or a large pan, heat a generous amount of oil over medium heat.

  3. Sauté the spice paste: Once the oil is hot, add the blended spice paste. Sauté until fragrant and the color changes to a golden brown.

  4. Cook the beef: Add the beef pieces to the wok. Allow the natural juices from the beef to come out, cooking the beef while turning it occasionally.

  5. Add water: Once the natural beef broth has evaporated, add enough water to the wok based on the desired consistency of the stew. If you prefer a thicker stew, add less water; for a thinner stew, add more water.

  6. Season the stew: Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste. Stir well and adjust the seasoning if needed.

  7. Add sweet soy sauce: Pour in the sweet soy sauce according to your taste preference. Stir the stew to ensure all the flavors are well combined.

  8. Simmer: Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender and fully cooked, and the flavors have melded together.

  9. Serve: Once the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened to your liking, remove the stew from the heat. Serve hot with steamed rice for a comforting and delicious meal.

Enjoy this hearty and flavorful Semur Daging Sapi a la Ibu, a dish that brings the warmth and comfort of home cooking to your table.
