Moong Dal Pani (Dal Soup) Recipe for Babies 6 Months & Above

This Moong Dal Soup, also known as Moong Pani, is a delicious and nutritious meal perfect for babies starting from 6 months. The recipe takes less than 20 minutes to prepare and is easy to digest, making it ideal for your little one’s first steps toward solid food. The addition of ghee, hing, and cumin powder brings a lovely flavor to the soup, making it both wholesome and enjoyable for toddlers.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Yellow Moong Dal (Split)
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ghee
  • A pinch of Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • A pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
  • A pinch of Cumin Powder (Jeera)
  • A pinch of Salt
  • A few chopped Coriander (Dhania) Leaves (for babies 8 months and older)

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Start by pressure cooking the Yellow Moong Dal with a pinch of salt and 1/2 cup of water in a pressure cooker. Cook for 3 to 4 whistles and then turn off the heat. Allow the pressure to release naturally.
  2. Once the pressure has released, transfer the cooked dal into a mixer grinder and blend it into a smooth puree.
  3. Now, heat ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add the asafoetida, turmeric powder, and cumin powder, stirring for a few seconds.
  4. Pour the smooth dal puree into the pan with the ghee tadka. Bring it to a quick boil. Adjust the consistency of the soup by adding more water if needed, and then turn off the heat.
  5. Serve the Moong Dal Paani/Soup to your baby or toddler as a lunch or dinner meal. If your baby is 8 months or older, garnish with a few chopped coriander leaves to introduce them to different textures and flavors.

This soup is a wholesome and easy-to-make option that provides high protein, making it ideal for growing toddlers. It’s perfect as a soft, light meal, packed with nutrition for little ones!
