Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
1 cup Sugar
1 cup Sorghum
3/4 cup Molasses
1/2 cup Hot water
2 Eggs
1 tsp Baking soda
1/2 tsp Salt
2 tsp Cinnamon
2 tsp Ginger
6 – 7 cups White flour

Instructions:

  1. Combine first four ingredients in a large bowl: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, sorghum, molasses, and hot water. Stir until well combined.

  2. Add eggs: Crack the eggs into the bowl with the wet ingredients.

  3. Mix dry ingredients together and add to wet: In a separate bowl, sift together the baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and white flour. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.

  4. Mix well: Use a spatula or wooden spoon to mix the ingredients together thoroughly, ensuring an even distribution of spices and flour.

  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and place it in the refrigerator. Allow the dough to chill overnight to enhance the flavors.

  6. Roll dough out on a Pam (or other non-stick cooking spray) covered surface: The next day, remove the dough from the refrigerator and place it on a surface sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Roll out the dough to your desired thickness. If you prefer thicker cookies, roll the dough out accordingly.

  7. Cut with desired shapes: Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into various shapes. Gingerbread men, stars, and hearts are classic choices for these festive cookies.

  8. Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden brown.

  9. Enjoy: Once baked, allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. These Old Fashioned Gingerbread Cookies are delicious served warm or at room temperature.

  10. Optional: These cookies freeze well and are softer and more flavorful after freezing. Simply store them in an airtight container or freezer bag for future enjoyment.

Indulge in the nostalgic taste of these Old Fashioned Gingerbread Cookies, and share the warmth and tradition with your loved ones during the holiday season or any time you crave a comforting treat.
