Sambal Tahu: Flavorful Spicy Tofu Delight

Spicy Tofu (Sambal Tahu)
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, cut into small cubes
- A handful of red chilies
- Optional: a few bird’s eye chilies (if you like it extra spicy)
- 3 shallots
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1/2 tomato
- 1/2 onion
- 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
- Cooking oil
- Salt, sugar, ground black pepper, and seasoning to taste
Instructions
- 
Prepare the Tofu: - Boil the tofu cubes in water with a pinch of salt or seasoning until the flavors are absorbed.
- Heat a sufficient amount of oil in a pan and fry the tofu cubes until they turn golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
 
- 
Prepare the Sambal (Spicy Sauce): Related Articles- Blend or grind the red chilies, shallots, garlic, and tomato into a smooth paste.
- Heat a small amount of oil in a pan. Add the sliced onion and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the blended sambal paste to the pan and cook, stirring frequently.
 
- 
Combine and Cook: - Pour in the water and season with salt, sugar, ground black pepper, and additional seasoning to taste.
- Allow the sambal to simmer until the flavors meld together and the sauce slightly thickens.
- Add the fried tofu cubes to the pan, stirring gently to coat them with the sambal. Cook until the tofu is heated through and the flavors are well combined.

Serve: - Transfer the spicy tofu to a serving dish and enjoy it hot. Perfect with steamed rice or as a side dish!
