Gurame Tahu Tauco
Ingredients
- 1 whole gurame fish
- 1 block of firm tofu
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 finger-sized piece of ginger, sliced
- 3 large green chilies, seeds removed
- 2 large red chilies
- 5 tablespoons tauco (fermented soybean paste)
- Soy sauce
- Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- Oyster sauce
- Sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon Angciu (Chinese cooking wine)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Fish: Begin by rubbing the gurame fish with lime juice to enhance its flavor. This not only adds zest but also helps to tenderize the fish. Once seasoned, set it aside.
-
Fry the Tofu: Cut the block of tofu into cubes and fry until golden brown on all sides. This will add a lovely texture and richness to the dish.
-
Sauté the Aromatics: In a hot pan, add a little oil and sauté the sliced onion until translucent. Next, add the minced garlic and sliced ginger, cooking until fragrant.
-
Add the Tauco: Incorporate the tauco into the pan, stirring well to combine with the aromatics. This will create a flavorful base for your dish.
-
Mix the Sauces: Add in the soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil, mixing everything thoroughly. Adjust the flavor with a splash of water to create a savory sauce.
-
Combine Ingredients: Gently add the fried tofu and the seasoned gurame fish into the pan. Ensure the fish is well-coated with the sauce mixture.
-
Taste and Adjust: Before serving, taste the dish. If it’s not salty enough, you can add a pinch of salt; however, if your tauco is already salty, additional salt may not be necessary.
-
Serve: Once everything is combined and heated through, transfer the dish to a serving plate and enjoy your delicious Gurame Tahu Tauco!
This delightful dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice and is perfect for a family meal or gathering, showcasing the wonderful balance of flavors that define Indonesian cuisine. Enjoy!
