Kare Telor and Tahu Recipe

Ingredients

Tofu 3 blocks
Basil (optional) 1 bunch
Coconut milk to taste
Spices
Turmeric 1 thumb-sized piece
Ginger 1 thumb-sized piece
Shallots 5
Garlic 5 cloves
Candlenuts 5 pieces
Coriander to taste
Cumin to taste
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Eggs: Boil the eggs until hard, then lightly fry them to allow the spices to penetrate. Set aside.

  2. Prepare the Tofu: Cut the tofu into desired shapes and lightly fry until golden. Set aside.

  3. Prepare the Spices: Roast the ginger and turmeric to enhance their flavors. Fry the candlenuts until golden.

  4. Make the Spice Paste: Blend the garlic, coriander, cumin, ginger, turmeric, and candlenuts until smooth. Set aside.

  5. Sauté Shallots: Thinly slice the shallots and sauté in oil over medium heat until fragrant. Add the blended spice paste and cook until aromatic.

  6. Combine Ingredients: Add water to the sautéed mixture. Gently incorporate the fried eggs and tofu, stirring to combine. Season with sugar and salt to taste.

  7. Simmer: Cook until the spices are well absorbed, then add coconut milk. Stir well.

  8. Final Touch: Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Finally, add the basil (if using) and simmer until boiling.
