Angsio Tahu Sapi: A Delicious Stir-Fried Tofu and Beef Dish

If you’re craving a flavorful and satisfying dish that marries the savory goodness of beef with the subtlety of tofu, Angsio Tahu Sapi is the perfect choice. This recipe combines tender slices of beef and crispy tofu with a rich, umami-packed sauce, making it a standout meal that’s both easy to prepare and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams beef (preferably sirloin or tenderloin), thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (maizena)
  • 1.5 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 block firm tofu (I recommend Silky Tofu, which is dense)
  • 1 large red chili pepper, sliced
  • 1 stalk green onion, cut into longer pieces
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 200 ml chicken or beef broth
  • 3 teaspoons cooking wine (Angciu)
  • 2.5 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Sugar to taste
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with a little water (for thickening)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Cut the tofu into pieces measuring approximately 3x5x1 cm. Heat a pan with oil and fry the tofu pieces briefly until they are golden and slightly crispy. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  2. Marinate the Beef:

    • Toss the thinly sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1.5 tablespoons of soy sauce. Let it marinate for 10-20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Cook the Beef:

    • Heat a pan over high heat and stir-fry the marinated beef until it changes color. This should take no more than 30 seconds. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. Stir-Fry the Aromatics:

    • In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed and sauté the chopped garlic and sliced red chili until fragrant.
  5. Make the Sauce:

    • Add the cooking wine (Angciu), oyster sauce, and 2 teaspoons of soy sauce to the pan. Pour in the chicken or beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Combine and Simmer:

    • Once the broth starts to boil, add the fried tofu and cooked beef back into the pan. Adjust the seasoning with salt and sugar according to your taste.
  7. Finish the Dish:

    • Stir in the sesame oil and green onion. To thicken the sauce, add the cornstarch mixture and stir well until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
  8. Serve:

    • Once the sauce is thickened and everything is well combined, transfer the dish to a serving plate. Enjoy it hot with steamed rice or as part of a larger meal.

This Angsio Tahu Sapi is a delightful blend of textures and flavors, with the crispy tofu complementing the tender beef and the savory sauce binding everything together. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion, this dish is sure to impress and satisfy.
