Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
Servings: 6
Ingredients:
Quantity | Ingredient |
---|---|
3 1/2 | boneless bottom round roast |
4 – 6 | potatoes |
1 | onion |
2 – 4 | carrots |
– | basil |
– | dried garlic |
– | garlic powder |
– | water |
– | flour |
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
- Prepare the Roast: Place the boneless bottom round roast or rump roast in a large roasting pan or baking dish.
- Add Vegetables: Surround the roast with potatoes, onion, and carrots. You can customize the vegetables according to your preference.
- Seasoning: Generously sprinkle the meat and vegetables with basil, dried garlic, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, adding layers of flavor to your roast.
- Initial Cooking: Place the pan in the preheated oven and allow it to cook for about 15 minutes.
- Add Water: Pour water into the pan, filling it about 1/2 inch to an inch up. This moisture will help keep the roast juicy and tender.
- Maintain Moisture: Every 20 minutes, check the water level. If it’s diminishing and turning darker, add a little more water to prevent it from steaming away completely. You can also pour this flavorful liquid over the roast if it appears too dry on top.
- Roasting Time: Allow the roast to cook for approximately 20-30 minutes per pound, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness, and the vegetables are tender.
- Resting Period: Once done, carefully remove the roast to a carving platter, and using a slotted spoon, transfer the vegetables to their own serving dish.
- Prepare the Gravy: There are two options for making the gravy:
- Gravy Mix: Follow the instructions on the package, substituting the liquid from the pan for some or all of the water indicated.
- Homemade Gravy: In a saucepan, whisk together 1/4 cup of pan drippings and 1/4 cup of flour until smooth. Heat over low heat until the mixture starts to bubble. Slowly add 2 cups of water or a combination of water and drippings to the flour mixture. Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon (or more) of Gravy Master. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve: Slice the beef after it has rested for about 15 minutes to retain its juices. Serve the succulent roast beef with the homemade gravy and enjoy a hearty Sunday meal with family and friends! π½οΈπ₯©π₯π₯
