Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tempeh:

    • Begin by steaming the tempeh until it is soft. Once steamed, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.
    • Mash the steamed tempeh in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Combine Ingredients:

    • In the bowl with the mashed tempeh, add the ground chicken, finely chopped garlic, ground black pepper, tapioca flour, all-purpose flour, and eggs.
    • Mix everything together until you achieve a uniform mixture. If desired, fold in the fried shallots for added flavor.
  3. Shape the Patties:

    • Form the mixture into balls, then flatten them gently to create patty shapes.
  4. Cook the Patties:

    • Dip each patty into the beaten egg, ensuring they are well coated.
    • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add butter and oil to prevent sticking.
    • Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, flipping them carefully to avoid burning until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Make the Sauce:

    • In a separate pan, finely chop the garlic and onion. Sauté them in a bit of oil until fragrant.
    • Add the teriyaki sauce (or oyster sauce), ketchup, soy sauce, ground black pepper, and salt. Stir well.
    • In a small bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with a little water to create a slurry. Gradually add this to the sauce, stirring continuously until it thickens to your desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  6. Serve:

    • Plate the cooked Steak Tempe patties and generously drizzle with the sauce.
    • Garnish with the steamed carrot and green bean strips, alongside a serving of crispy French fries.

Enjoy your Steak Tempe with vibrant vegetables and a flavorful sauce for a delightful meal that’s sure to impress!
