  • 3 green chillies (or dried red chillies)
  • 10 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt, to taste
    For Tempering:
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 6 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

Preparation Time: 16 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Wash the tur dal thoroughly and soak it for 15-20 minutes.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked dal, chopped tomatoes, onions, green chillies, 6 cloves of garlic, turmeric powder, and 2 cups of water. Mix well.

  6. While the dal simmers, prepare the tempering: Heat ghee in a small pan. Add the mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.
  7. Once the mustard seeds crackle, add asafoetida and curry leaves, cooking for 15 seconds.
  8. Pour the tempering into the cooked dal, stirring to combine.
  9. Serve hot with steamed rice and chow chow thoran for a complete meal.
