Telur Tahu Balado: A Simple and Flavorful Indonesian Delight
Ingredients:
- 4 hard-boiled eggs (fried after boiling)
- 2 blocks of tofu, cut into cubes (fried as well)
- 1 tablespoon of palm sugar
- 4 cloves of fried garlic
- Water, as needed
- Salt and sugar, to taste
- 6 large red chilies, seeds removed
- 6 bird’s eye chilies
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Spice Blend: Begin by finely grinding the fried garlic, large red chilies, and bird’s eye chilies into a smooth paste. This aromatic mixture is the heart of the dish, so ensure it’s well-blended.
-
Cook the Spice Paste: In a pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Add the chili paste and sauté until it releases its fragrant aroma, which should take a couple of minutes.
-
Add Sweetness and Seasoning: Stir in the palm sugar and continue to cook for another minute. Next, pour in enough water to create a sauce. Season with salt and sugar according to your taste preferences. Allow the mixture to come to a boil.
-
Simmer the Ingredients: Once the sauce is boiling, gently add the fried eggs and tofu cubes. Let the mixture simmer until the sauce reduces and thickens slightly, coating the ingredients. This should take around 5-10 minutes.
-
Finish and Serve: Once the sauce has thickened to your liking and the flavors have melded together, remove from heat. Drain any excess sauce, if desired.
-
Enjoy: Serve your Telur Tahu Balado warm with steamed rice or as a side dish. Enjoy the spicy, sweet, and savory flavors of this Indonesian classic!
Happy cooking! 🤗
