Oseng Telor Bungkus: A Flavorful Indonesian Delight

Experience the rich and tantalizing flavors of Indonesia with this recipe for Oseng Telor Bungkus. This unique dish features eggs cooked in a savory blend of spices and seasonings, offering a delightful twist on traditional egg dishes. Perfect for a flavorful meal, this recipe is sure to impress with its aromatic combination of ingredients and vibrant flavors.

Ingredients

  • 7 large eggs (chicken or duck)
  • 5 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 5 green chilies, sliced diagonally
  • 1-inch piece of galangal, crushed
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • Soy sauce (Kecap Bango), to taste
  • A splash of water
  • A small amount of cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Eggs: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Carefully crack the eggs into the boiling water without the shell. This method of cooking the eggs without their shells ensures a unique texture and flavor. Let the eggs cook until they are set but still slightly soft in the center.

  2. Prepare the Spice Mixture: While the eggs are cooking, heat a small amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced shallots, garlic, green chilies, and crushed galangal to the pan. Sauté the mixture until the shallots and garlic become fragrant and golden brown.

  3. Combine Ingredients: Add a splash of water and 3 tablespoons of Kecap Bango (soy sauce) to the sautéed mixture. Stir well to combine. Next, add the sliced tomato and cook until the tomato becomes tender and the flavors meld together. Adjust the seasoning by tasting and adding more soy sauce if needed for sweetness or saltiness.

  4. Combine Eggs and Spice Mixture: Once the eggs are cooked to your desired consistency, remove them from the boiling water and drain them. Gently add the eggs to the pan with the spice mixture. Allow the mixture to cook together, letting the flavors infuse the eggs and the liquid reduce slightly.

  5. Serve and Enjoy: Once the spice mixture has thickened and the eggs are well-coated, remove the pan from heat. Serve the Oseng Telor Bungkus hot with steamed rice and your choice of fresh vegetable sides. For an extra touch of flavor, pair with petai (stinky beans) if available.

Enjoy this delicious and aromatic Indonesian dish as a hearty and satisfying meal!
