Tahu Gejrot Recipe

Ingredients

Tahu Pong/Tahu Goreng As needed, cut into pieces
Sambal Ingredients
Red chili peppers (Cabe Rawit) 3 (adjust for spiciness)
Shallots 1 (finely chopped)
Palm sugar To taste
Salt To taste
Sauce Ingredients
Water 200 ml
Palm sugar 1½ pieces
Salt A pinch
Tamarind or vinegar 4 pieces (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a pot, combine water, palm sugar, tamarind, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

  2. Make the Sambal: In a mortar and pestle, pound the red chili peppers, palm sugar, salt, and shallots until you achieve a smooth paste.

  3. Combine and Serve: Add the cut tofu to the sambal mixture, then pour the prepared sauce over it. Gently stir to combine all ingredients, ensuring the tofu is well coated. Serve immediately for a delightful, tangy experience.
