Spicy Tuna Sauté: A Flavorful Indonesian Delight

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole tuna fish (tuna belly or similar cut)
  • 10 red shallots
  • 5 Thai bird chilies
  • 3 red chilies
  • 1 small piece of shrimp paste (terasi)
  • 1/2 packet of chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Flavor enhancer (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by slicing all the ingredients. Shred the tuna fish into bite-sized pieces.

  2. Heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced shallots and sauté until fragrant and golden brown.

  3. Add the Thai bird chilies and red chilies to the pan. Continue to sauté until the chilies start to soften.

  4. Crumble the shrimp paste (terasi) into the pan, followed by the chili powder. Stir well to combine all the spices and release their aromas.

  5. Add the shredded tuna to the pan. Season with salt and a flavor enhancer if desired. Stir the mixture thoroughly, allowing the flavors to meld.

  6. Cook the mixture until the tuna is fully cooked and the sauce has thickened slightly, with the consistency becoming somewhat dry.
