Ingredients
- 1 cup moong dal (split yellow gram)
- 2-3 green chilies
- 2 tablespoons fenugreek leaves, chopped
- 2 tablespoons gram flour (besan)
- 2 teaspoons asafoetida powder
- 1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
Instructions
-
Soak the moong dal: Place the moong dal in a bowl and cover with water. Let it soak for 3 to 4 hours, then drain and rinse well.
-
Prepare the batter: In a blender, combine the soaked moong dal with green chilies and a little water. Blend until smooth.
-
Mix the ingredients: Transfer the blended dal mixture to a mixing bowl. Add chopped fenugreek leaves, gram flour, asafoetida powder, bicarbonate of soda, sugar, oil, and salt. Mix well to combine into a smooth batter.
-
Cook the waffles: If using a waffle iron, preheat it according to manufacturer’s instructions. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot waffle iron and cook until crisp and golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter.
If using a sandwich toaster, preheat it and lightly grease with oil. Pour a portion of batter onto the toaster and cook until both sides are golden and crispy. Repeat for each waffle, greasing the toaster as needed.
-
Serve: Serve the Spicy Moong Dal Waffles hot, accompanied by mustard dip or your favorite coriander or mint chutney.
These waffles are not only nutritious but also flavorful, making them a perfect choice for a quick breakfast or a light snack. Enjoy the crispy texture and aromatic spices in every bite!
