Tongkol Suwir: A Spicy and Flavorful Tuna Dish

Ingredients

Ingredient Amount
Shredded tongkol (tuna) 100 grams (1 ons)
Bon Cabe (Indonesian chili seasoning) 1 packet
Green onion, finely sliced 1 stalk
Shallots, minced 2 cloves
Garlic, minced 1 clove
Bird’s eye chilies (cabe rawit) 2 pieces
Egg 1
Cooking oil For sautéing
Salt To taste
Seasoning (optional) To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Begin by finely mincing the shallots and garlic. Slice the green onion into thin strips, and prepare the bird’s eye chilies for a spicy kick. Shred the tongkol (tuna) into bite-sized pieces, ready for cooking.

  2. Sauté the Aromatics: In a hot pan, heat a generous amount of cooking oil over medium heat. Sauté the minced shallots and garlic until they become fragrant and golden brown.

  3. Cook the Tuna: Add the shredded tongkol to the pan and stir-fry until the tuna is cooked through and starts to develop a crispy texture. Ensure that the tuna is evenly coated with the aromatic flavors.

  4. Add the Egg and Seasonings: Push the tuna to one side of the pan and crack in the egg. Allow it to cook for a minute before stirring everything together. Add the finely sliced green onion, Bon Cabe chili seasoning, salt, and optional seasoning. Stir thoroughly to mix the flavors evenly, and adjust the seasoning to taste.

  5. Serve: Once the tuna is well-cooked and the flavors are balanced, your spicy Tongkol Suwir is ready to be served! Enjoy this dish with steamed rice or as a side to other Indonesian-inspired meals.

This Tongkol Suwir is a quick and easy Indonesian comfort food, offering bold flavors and a delightful mix of textures from the tender tuna, savory egg, and spicy kick from the chilies. Perfect for a weeknight meal or a light lunch!
