Ingredients

Shallots (bawang merah) 5 cloves

Green onions (daun bawang) 2 stalks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: Begin by mashing the yellow tofu using a fork or spoon until smooth. Combine this with the ground spice mix (first measurement) until evenly mixed. Then, add the beaten egg and tapioca flour, along with salt and pepper. Stir until the mixture is well blended, ensuring it’s not too dense—just enough to form small balls.

  2. Cook the Tofu Balls: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Once boiling, drop in small balls of the tofu mixture and cook for about 7-10 minutes or until they float to the surface. Remove from the water, drain, and allow to cool.

  3. Fry the Tofu Balls: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully add the cooked tofu balls and fry until golden brown and crispy on the outside. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. Make the Sauce: In the same pan, sauté the remaining ground spice mix (second measurement) until fragrant. Add the chili sauce and tomato sauce, along with the fried tofu balls and chopped green onions. Stir well to coat everything in the sauce.

  5. Final Touches: Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot, enjoying the delightful combination of spicy and sweet flavors!
