Spicy Sweet Beef Meatballs (Baso Sapi Pedas Manis)
Ingredients:
- 250 grams beef meatballs (baso sapi)
- Sliced Aromatics:
- 3 shallots
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 onion
- 3 bird’s eye chilies (cabe rawit)
- Seasonings:
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce (I used Indofood’s Sweet and Spicy Chili Sauce)
- 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons margarine for sautéing
Instructions:
-
Sauté Aromatics: Heat the margarine in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced shallots, garlic, onion, and bird’s eye chilies. Sauté until fragrant and the onions turn translucent.
-
Cook Meatballs: Add the beef meatballs to the pan and stir to combine with the aromatics. Cook until the meatballs are heated through.
-
Add Seasonings: Pour in the oyster sauce, sweet chili sauce, and sweet soy sauce. Stir well to ensure the meatballs are evenly coated with the sauces. Season with salt, ground black pepper, and sugar. Mix thoroughly and adjust the seasoning to taste.
-
Simmer: Add a small amount of water to the pan to create a light sauce. Allow the mixture to come to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the sauce slightly thickens and the flavors meld together.
-
Serve: Once the sauce has thickened and the meatballs are well-coated, remove from heat. Transfer the spicy sweet beef meatballs to a serving dish.
Enjoy this delectable dish as a flavorful addition to your meal. Happy cooking!
