Ayam Asam Manis (Sweet and Sour Chicken)

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams boneless chicken (sliced)
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (Saori brand recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 100 ml water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (dissolved in a bit of water)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:

    • After slicing the chicken, lightly rub it with lime juice. Allow it to marinate for about 15 minutes to enhance the flavor and tenderize the meat.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In a bowl, mix together the oyster sauce, tomato ketchup, chili sauce, honey, sugar, salt, chicken bouillon, and water. Stir until the sugar and bouillon are fully dissolved.
  3. Cook the Sauce:

    • Pour the sauce mixture into a pan and bring it to a boil over medium heat. Once it starts to bubble, add the dissolved cornstarch and stir continuously until the sauce thickens and begins to bubble again.
  4. Finish the Sauce:

    • Add the remaining lime juice to the sauce and stir well. Allow the sauce to cook for another minute until it reaches the desired consistency. Turn off the heat and set the sauce aside.
  5. Marinate the Chicken:

    • Pour a portion of the prepared sauce over the marinated chicken slices. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, allowing the chicken to absorb the flavors.
  6. Cook the Chicken:

    • Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add a small amount of butter. Fry the marinated chicken slices until they are fully cooked and golden brown.
  7. Add the Sauce:

    • Once the chicken is cooked, pour the remaining sauce over the chicken in the pan. Stir to coat the chicken evenly with the sauce and heat through.
  8. Serve:

    • Transfer the sweet and sour chicken to a serving plate. Enjoy this flavorful dish hot with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes.
