Sweet and Tangy Teriyaki Beef

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg beef, cut into small pieces
  • 6 shallots, finely sliced
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 round brown sugar
  • 1 small packet tamarind paste (Rp.500)
  • 1 packet Saori Teriyaki sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 packet of ground black pepper (Ladaku)
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 segment galangal (about 1 inch), sliced
  • 50 grams green chili peppers, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Masako (or any seasoned salt) to taste
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • Cooking oil
  • Water as needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Cut the beef into small cubes and boil until tender. Set aside.

  2. Prepare the Aromatics: Slice the shallots, garlic cloves, and onion. Chop the green chili peppers and slice the galangal.

  3. Sauté the Aromatics: Heat some cooking oil in a pan. Add the shallots and garlic, and sauté until fragrant. Add the sliced galangal and bay leaves. Stir in the ground black pepper.

  4. Combine Ingredients: Dissolve the tamarind paste in a small amount of water and add it to the pan. Next, stir in the brown sugar, white sugar, Masako (or seasoned salt), and salt. Bring to a boil.

  5. Add the Sauce: Pour in the Saori Teriyaki sauce and mix well. Adjust the seasoning to taste.

  6. Add Beef: Add the pre-cooked beef pieces to the pan. Stir to combine and ensure the beef is well coated with the sauce.

  7. Add Onion and Simmer: Mix in the chopped onion and continue to cook until the sauce has thickened and reduced to your desired consistency. Allow the mixture to simmer until most of the liquid has evaporated.

  8. Finish with Chili Peppers: Add the chopped green chili peppers. Stir and cook until the peppers are slightly wilted but still vibrant.

  9. Serve: Remove from heat and serve hot. Enjoy the sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors!

This dish combines the rich, savory taste of teriyaki sauce with a delightful balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy notes, making it a vibrant addition to any meal. Bon appétit!
