Sayur Asem with Red Beans and Beef
Ingredients:
- 1/4 kg red beans
- 1/4 kg beef
- 5 shallots
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 red chilies
- 1 tomato
- Tamarind (as needed)
- 1 stalk green onion
- Palm sugar (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
- A pinch of seasoning powder (like Royco beef flavor)
- 2 bay leaves
Instructions:
- Begin by cooking the red beans until tender. Once they are soft, set them aside.
- Next, cook the beef in water until it becomes tender. After cooking, cut the beef into small, bite-sized cubes.
- Thinly slice all the aromatic ingredients: shallots, garlic, red chilies, and tomato. Also, chop the green onion.
- In a pot, heat up about 1 liter of the beef broth from the previous step. If needed, add extra water to ensure there is enough liquid.
- Once the broth comes to a boil, add the cooked red beans and beef cubes.
- Incorporate the sliced shallots, garlic, red chilies, and tomato into the pot. Season with salt and palm sugar to taste. Add a pinch of seasoning powder, such as Royco beef flavor, for additional depth.
- Add the tamarind to give the dish a tangy flavor, adjusting the amount based on your preference.
- Toss in the bay leaves and allow the flavors to meld together by letting it simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Once the seasoning has fully absorbed and the flavors have developed, remove the pot from heat.
- Serve hot, and enjoy your homemade Sayur Asem with Red Beans and Beef.
