Recipe Yield: 72-84 cookies

Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
1 Powdered sugar
1 White sugar
1 Butter
1/4 Salt
2 Eggs
1 Vanilla
2 Baking soda
1 Cream of tartar
1 Flour
5 Sugar

Instructions:

  1. Cream together sugars, butter, and salt until fluffy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, white sugar, butter, and salt. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream the ingredients together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. Add remaining ingredients.

Once the sugars and butter are creamed together, add the eggs, vanilla, baking soda, cream of tartar, and flour to the mixture.

  3. Mix well.

Mix the ingredients together until a smooth dough forms. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure all ingredients are fully incorporated.

  4. Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) in preparation for baking the cookies.

  5. Roll 1 tablespoon of dough into a ball.

Take 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it between your palms to form a ball. Repeat this process until all the dough is used up, placing each ball onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

  6. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Arrange the dough balls on an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading while baking.

  7. Flatten with a sugared glass bottom.

Take a glass with a flat bottom and dip it into sugar. Gently press the sugared glass bottom onto each dough ball to flatten it into a disc shape. Repeat this process for each cookie, re-sugaring the glass bottom as needed to prevent sticking.

  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes – do not brown.

Place the cookie sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden brown. Be careful not to overbake; the cookies should remain soft and not browned.

  9. Cool and Enjoy!

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, decorate with colored sugars if desired, and enjoy these delicious Mom’s Sugar Cookies with a glass of milk or hot cocoa! πŸͺπŸ₯›
