Our neighbor, a retired college librarian, made the best brownies. She passed along the recipe to me in high school so that our family could continue to enjoy them. These brownies are a delightful blend of rich chocolate, buttery goodness, and crunchy pecans, creating the perfect treat for any occasion.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
- 2 ounces baking chocolate
- 5 eggs
- 6 cups sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Recipe Yield:
1 eight x eleven inch pan of brownies
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Grease an 8 x 11-inch baking pan lightly with butter or cooking spray.
- Melt the baking chocolate and butter together in the top of a double boiler. Allow it to cool slightly.
- Beat the eggs lightly in a mixing bowl.
- Add sugar, salt, and vanilla extract to the beaten eggs. Mix well until fully combined.
- Slowly incorporate the cooled chocolate and butter mixture into the egg mixture. Stir well to combine.
- Gently mix the chopped pecans into the flour.
- Fold the flour mixture into the chocolate batter until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for a few minutes.
