Steamed Tuna with Sambal Matah – A Healthy Diet-Friendly Recipe

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Fresh tuna fillet 200 grams
For the Sambal Matah:
Lime (juice only) 1
Lemongrass (thinly sliced) 2 stalks
Shallots (thinly sliced) 5 cloves
Garlic (mashed) 1 clove
Kaffir lime leaves 2 leaves
Red chilies (thinly sliced) 5 pieces
Shrimp paste (Terasi) A pinch
Salt 1 teaspoon, or to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sambal Matah:
Combine all the sambal ingredients in a bowl: lime juice, lemongrass, shallots, mashed garlic, kaffir lime leaves, red chilies, shrimp paste, and salt. Gently mix and press the ingredients together with your hands or a spoon to release the flavors.

  2. Marinate the Tuna:
Rub the sambal mixture all over the fresh tuna fillet, ensuring the flavors coat the fish thoroughly. Wrap the marinated tuna in cling film to help the flavors penetrate evenly and refrigerate it for 15–30 minutes.

  3. Steam the Tuna:
Once marinated, steam the tuna fillet until fully cooked (about 15–20 minutes depending on the thickness of the fillet). For added aroma, you can place the leftover lemongrass stalks and extra kaffir lime leaves in the steamer.

  4. Serve:
Remove the tuna from the steamer, discard the cling wrap if used, and serve the tuna with the fragrant sambal matah on top. Enjoy this healthy and delicious dish as part of a balanced diet!

This Steamed Tuna with Sambal Matah dish is not only packed with flavor but is also a perfect fit for those looking to enjoy a nutrient-dense, low-calorie meal.
