Sapi Lada Hitam (Beef Black Pepper)

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • 1/2 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper (or red chili), sliced into strips
  • 1/2 green bell pepper (or green chili), sliced into strips
  • Black pepper (ground or whole), to taste
  • Enough water (preferably beef broth) to cover
  • For Marinade:
    • 7 tablespoons oyster sauce
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
    • Black pepper powder, to taste

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Beef: In a medium pot, simmer the sliced beef over medium heat until tender. Reserve the beef broth for later use in the stir-fry.

  2. Marinate the Beef: Combine the oyster sauce, soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and black pepper powder in a bowl. Toss the cooked beef slices in this marinade mixture, ensuring they are well-coated. Let the beef marinate for at least 1-2 hours, or overnight in the refrigerator for best results.

  3. Sauté Aromatics: Heat a pan over medium heat and sauté the garlic and shallots until fragrant and golden brown.

  4. Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the pan with the sautéed aromatics. Gradually add the reserved beef broth (or water) to the pan, allowing it to simmer and reduce until the sauce thickens.

  5. Add Vegetables: Incorporate the sliced onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper into the pan. Sprinkle in black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  6. Adjust Seasoning: Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, adding more black pepper or soy sauce as needed.

  7. Serve: Once the sauce has thickened and the vegetables are tender, remove from heat. Serve the beef black pepper hot, garnished with a sprinkle of fresh black pepper. Enjoy this savory dish with your family for a delightful meal.

Enjoy this flavorful and aromatic Sapi Lada Hitam, a classic Indonesian dish that’s perfect for bringing everyone together around the table!
