Ground Beef Steak with Mushroom Sauce

Ingredients

For the Beef Steak:

  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • Ground black or white pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Butter, for grilling

For the Mushroom Sauce:

  • 150 grams shiitake mushrooms, thinly sliced and roughly chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 200 ml water
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil, for sautéing

For the Accompaniments:

  • 150 grams broccoli
  • 50 grams carrots
  • 150 grams cherry tomatoes
  • 300 grams potatoes, cut into wedges
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

For the Beef Steak:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, egg, ground pepper, and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the mixture into five equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball, then flatten to form patties.
  3. Heat a non-stick frying pan or grill over medium heat and add a sufficient amount of butter.
  4. Place the patties on the pan or grill, cooking until each side turns brown and the meat is fully cooked.

For the Mushroom Sauce:

  1. In a saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until fragrant and translucent.
  2. Add the chopped shiitake mushrooms to the pan, stirring continuously until they become tender but not browned.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and onions, stirring well to combine.
  4. Gradually add the water, stirring constantly to dissolve the flour completely and prevent lumps from forming.
  5. Season the sauce with salt and ground black pepper to taste. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens.
  6. Remove from heat and set aside.

For the Accompaniments:

  1. In a pot of boiling water, cook the broccoli and carrot pieces until tender. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a small frying pan. Sauté the cherry tomatoes for about 3 minutes, until they begin to soften.
  3. Preheat an air fryer or oven to 200°C (400°F). Toss the potato wedges with the remaining olive oil, salt, and ground black pepper. Cook in the air fryer or oven for about 20 minutes, or until crispy and golden.

To Serve:

  1. Place the beef steaks on plates and spoon the mushroom sauce over the top.
  2. Arrange the cooked broccoli, carrots, and cherry tomatoes around the steaks.
  3. Serve with the crispy potato wedges on the side.
  4. For added variety, you can replace the broccoli and carrots with green beans or asparagus. The potatoes can also be mashed instead of fried or oven-baked.
  5. If you enjoy a bit of spice, consider serving with a side of chili sauce for an extra kick.

This delightful Ground Beef Steak with Mushroom Sauce, paired with vibrant vegetables and crispy potatoes, makes for a hearty and satisfying meal. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or an elegant gathering with friends, this recipe brings together the rich flavors of beef and mushrooms with the freshness of seasonal vegetables. Enjoy!
