Sapi Lada Hitam (Black Pepper Beef Stir-Fry)

Ingredients

  • 250 grams of thinly sliced beef
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper (or more to taste)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and sugar to taste
  • 1 teaspoon mushroom bouillon (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • A splash of water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, combine the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, and Worcestershire sauce (if using). Mix well to create a smooth marinade.

  2. Marinate the Beef: Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat. For best results, marinate for a few hours.

  3. Sauté Aromatics: In a large pan, melt the margarine over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they become fragrant and the onion is translucent.

  4. Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef along with the marinade to the pan. Stir-fry until the beef begins to brown. Add a splash of water to help cook the beef through and create a bit of sauce. Continue to cook until the water has mostly evaporated and the beef is tender.

  5. Season the Dish: Season the beef with salt, sugar, and mushroom bouillon (if using). Adjust the seasoning to your taste preference. Finally, stir in the ground black pepper.

  6. Add the Bell Pepper: Add the sliced red bell pepper to the pan and stir-fry for an additional minute or two, just until the pepper is slightly tender but still crisp.

  7. Serve: Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Enjoy your Sapi Lada Hitam with steamed rice for a complete and satisfying meal.

This delightful Black Pepper Beef Stir-Fry combines the robust flavors of marinated beef with the aromatic blend of garlic and onion, complemented by the sweet and spicy kick of black pepper. Perfect for a quick and delicious meal that is sure to impress!
